Our 7th Annual Bull sale was held on Thursday 23rd of August 2018. Despite trying seasonal conditions for much of regional NSW throughout 2018, the bulls were very well supported, resulting in a fantastic sale outcome. 100% of the 37 bulls offered sold to a top of $15,000 and an overall average of $6459. We were extremely pleased to see 21 of the 37 bulls sell to new clients spread right across NSW and into Victoria as well. It was great to see long term repeat clients competing hard for the top end bulls. The Combes family from Lue Station purchased lot 4, a Millah Murrah Klooney son for $15,000. Another long term client Dick Croake, representing the Blackwell family, purchased 3 bulls on the day, including lot 5, a Te Mania Emperor son for $15,000. As well as around Mudgee, bulls went to a massive spread around NSW to commercial operations at Bylong, Rylstone, Mandurama, Oberon, Wagga Wagga, Bourke, Guyra and across the border to Dumbalk, Victoria. We look forward to hearing feedback on the cattle and eagerly await some rain in the coming months.

2018 EKKA Paddock to Palate Success

Coffin Creek steers have taken out 1st Place for MSA Eating Quality and run 8th Overall at the 2018 EKKA Paddock to Palate Competition (Class 38 Trade 70 Day).
This ranks them as the highest placed pure-bred Angus team in a very strong, multi-breed competition.
We are stoked with this news! Furthermore, the bulls that sell on August 23rd are the lead cattle of the exact same cohort of male progeny from which these steers were chosen. They represent a fantastic opportunity to access genetics that work!

Autumn Calving Complete

With Autumn calving done and dusted we look ahead to joining 300+ registered females at the end of the month. The girls are in great order and we can't wait to match them up to the cracking new sire lines we have spent the last 12 months sourcing.

Embryo Work Underway

Our first ET program has yielded a fantastic result. 7 cows flushed to retrieve a total of 53 A Grade embryos. A lot of lessons learnt and a massive thanks to Dave Christie. We are thrilled to have plenty of eggs from the females we purchased at the 2017 Millah Murrah female sale. Their first ET calves will be arriving in April 2019.

Premium prices for Coffin Creek Genetics

The 21st Annual Mudgee Angus Breeder's Sale was held on Thursday 27th April 2018. It was a fantastic day for many of our clients, who received strong market recognition of their product in deteriorating seasonal conditions. The highlight for us as seed stock producers was seeing Jamie & Sarah Inglis of Kalilett Pastoral win the Champion Pen of Females for the 3rd year in a row with pure Coffin Creek blood PTIC heifers. It was also pleasing to see long time clients John & Sue MacDonald sell steers to the top price of the day in a yarding of over 1400 head. Other clients Berry MacDonald, Damian Cover and Charles Armitage had strong results with their respective offerings.

Ones to watch

We're really happy with the progress of the Te Mania Emperor sons headed to our sale this August. From a diet of grass only, they're exhibiting plenty of ability to convert feed into beef with N13 recently weighing 605kg at 12 months of age.

Next Generation Genetics

N35.jpg

With 2018 underway, we are welcoming the next generation of genetics coming through at Coffin Creek. We are currently weaning our 2017 autumn drop calves and have been pleased with the new sire groups to our programme. In particular, the calves by the $80,000 Millah Murrah Klooney. We look forward to offering a quality selection of his sons at our sale later in the year, but are also delighted with the prospect of his daughters as future breeders.
